The Papo Megaloceros model was introduced in the autumn of 2020. A stunning model of the majestic member of the Cervidae, which is also referred to as the “giant elk” or the “Irish elk”, the Megaloceros was our favourite new Papo figure that year.

A Papo model fan from Hungary contacted Everything Dinosaur about this prehistoric animal.

The Papo Megaloceros Model
Papo Megaloceros model. This figure was one of six new models introduced by Papo in 2020 and the only prehistoric mammal. The models introduced by Papo in 2020 – a Giganotosaurus figure, Chilesaurus, Parasaurolophus and feathered Velociraptor (new colour variants) and a replica of the bone-headed dinosaur Stygimoloch.

Megaloceros – Official Fossil of the Year in Hungary

Our thanks to Valentin from Hungary who emailed Everything Dinosaur to confirm that his Papo Megaloceros model had arrived. It seems that Megaloceros has been declared the official fossil of the year for Hungary (2022). Despite being commonly referred to as the “Irish elk”, Megaloceros its range was not restricted to Ireland, nor was it related to the extant elk (Cervus canadensis) or indeed the modern Moose (Alces alces).

The Megaloceros genus had an extensive geographical range from China to Ireland and several species have been erected.

The new for 2020 Papo Megaloceros figure is looking very regal. Megaloceros has been declared the official fossil of the year (2022) in Hungary.

A Magnificent Ice Age Animal

Valentin emailed Everything Dinosaur stating:

“As far as I know, this is the only model made of this magnificent Ice Age animal – and what a beautiful one it is! The huge antlers of a male Megaloceros give him a really authoritative, majestic appearance, which is perfectly reproduced by this figure. The only thing I would have to complain about is the painting (the brown colour of the hump above his shoulders seemed a little unnatural to me), but apart from this minor flaw, it’s really beautiful. The giant deer became the official Fossil of the Year in Hungary in 2022, so it’s a perfect start to my collection! Totally recommended!”

Praise for Everything Dinosaur

Valentin praised Everything Dinosaur commenting:

“And to say a word or two about the delivery itself: my shipment arrived in a few days, fortunately completely intact! Shortly after placing my order, I received an email with a link that I could use to track my package. A good example to follow! Thank you very much, guys!”

The Protoceratops Genus

The Protoceratops genus was erected in 1923 when the first species (P. andrewsi), was formally named and described (Granger and Gregory). The first fossils of this dinosaur were collected during the famous American Museum of Natural History expedition to the Gobi Desert. Protoceratops andrewsi is associated with the Mongolian Djadokhta Formation (Upper Cretaceous), a second species, the slightly larger Protoceratops hellenikorhinus was named and described in 2001 (Lambert et al). Fossils of P. hellenikorhinus are associated with the Bayan Mandahu Formation of Inner Mongolia (China).

PNSO Fergus the Acrocanthosaurus Model Reviewed

By |2022-10-20T12:36:35+01:00July 15th, 2022|Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Product Reviews|0 Comments

Our thanks to dinosaur fan and model collector William who sent into Everything Dinosaur his detailed review of the recently introduced PNSO Fergus the Acrocanthosaurus dinosaur model.

William starts his review by discussing the head sculpt. He states that the head is “a thing of pure magic, a true Acrocanthosaurus”. When compared to known skull material the life reconstruction from PNSO is praised.

The reviewer goes on to add:

“Thank you both ZHAO Chuang and YANG Yang from us, we are all humbled.”

PNSO Fergus the Acrocanthosaurus
PNSO Fergus the Acrocanthosaurus has an articulated lower jaw.

No Hint of Shrink Wrapping

The superb skin texturing associated with the head sculpt is mentioned and the reviewer states that the figure shows no signs of shrink wrapping. He comments that the orbits, external ears and the lacrimal crests are perhaps the best around. The model has a fully articulated lower jaw, no lips and the jaw opens smoothly revealing lots of fine detail in the mouth.

William also highlights the placement of the eyes, giving stereoscopic vision.

The Main Body Sculpt

In William’s opinion PNSO have created the most detailed and scientifically accurate Acrocanthosaurus made to date. The cloaca is in the correct position and the neural spines, running from the base of the neck to the pelvic region are praised.

“When viewed from above you can see what makes this figure very rare and special. His massive musculature begins just behind the shoulders and travels down towards the tail. Within the folds of the model’s skin the ribs can be observed and touched these are the anchor points to which the muscles are attached.”

PNSO Fergus the Acrocanthosaurus.
The PNSO Fergus the Acrocanthosaurus dinosaur model.

The forelimbs are described as providing a realistic likeness to the living dinosaur. William also comments upon the hind legs stating that they look robust and powerful, not made for speed but being ideal to help this large carnivore overpower sauropods.

He explains that the tail might look a little shorter when compared to previous examples of the Carcharodontosauridae, but it only seems short due to the presence of the neural spines.

PNSO Fergus the Acrocanthosaurus
Fergus the Acrocanthosaurus model new from PNSO for 2022.

Similar to a Burmese Python

The reviewer suggests that the model’s colouration is similar to that of a Burmese python. He states that the colour scheme chosen is an inspired choice for an apex predator. The base colour of light ochre contrasts with the darker wash and the Burmese python markings.

William comments that the pink maw of the mouth has a real natural feel and look about it, with the white teeth blending into brown/white at the roots.

He adds:

“The lacrimal crest has a subtle red applied which is very pleasing to one’s eye.”

PNSO Fergus the Acrocanthosaurus

The Size of the PNSO Acrocanthosaurus Model

William suggests that the figure has a scale of 1:37 and provides model measurements:

Estimated scale: 1/37.
Length: 12.7 inches.
Height: 4.1 inches.

The PNSO Fergus the Acrocanthosaurus model is supplied with a number of accessories.

  • Clear plastic support stand.
  • Beautiful, illustrated 64-page booklet.
  • Stunning A3 colour poster.

The model is supplied with a clear plastic support stand, a 64-page full colour booklet and colour poster. A QR code on the packaging links to a short video that explains how the figure was made.

Acrocanthosaurus Fossils

As is customary with William’s model reviews he concludes by providing information about this Early Cretaceous dinosaur and details of fossil discoveries.

He states that Acrocanthosaurus fossils have been found in four U.S. states (Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming and Arizona).

Weight: 6.2 tons.
Length: 38 feet.
Height: 10 feet.

As hypercarnivores the Carcharodontosauridae were the ultimate big game hunters, feasting on sauropods. William suggests that these predators were probably pack hunters.

In the information supplied to Everything Dinosaur, William explained how “high spine lizard” was discovered and named and recounted the tale of the discovery of the specimen nicknamed “Fran”.

Whilst the evolution of such high neural spines in members of the Theropoda remains uncertain, William postulates that the spines could have supported a hump or perhaps played a role in visual displays or regulating body temperature.

Theropod and Sauropod Tracks from the Glen Rose Formation

The reviewer also commented upon the famous theropod and sauropod tracks, in what is now known as the Dinosaur Valley State Park (Texas). The tracks may represent a theropod dinosaur stalking a sauropod. These tracks have been attributed to dinosaurs similar to Acrocanthosaurus and Sauroposeidon respectively.

William closes his review by stating that the PNSO Fergus the Acrocanthosaurus figure is:

“PNSO’s greatest theropod”.

William Reviews PNSO Sinraptor Model

By |2022-10-20T12:45:44+01:00July 7th, 2022|Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Product Reviews|0 Comments

Our thanks to dinosaur model collector William who sent into Everything Dinosaur his detailed review of the PNSO Sinraptor dinosaur model. In his comprehensive review, William states that Sinraptor is one of the more obscure members of the Metriacanthosauridae family, although the exact phylogeny of this theropod has yet to be resolved.

PNSO Sinraptor dinosaur model
The stunning PNSO Xinchuan the Sinraptor dinosaur model.

A Clear Winner

Describing Xinchuan as a “clear winner”, William comments that there are so many traits and characteristics of the figure to admire including the pugnacious, robust head. PNSO have depicted Sinraptor as a “do or die type of theropod, ready to hunt or as easily plunder a kill”.

Beginning with the head, William describes it commenting on the very fine skin texturing and smooth appearance of the skull, with no shrink wrapping of the model detected. The perfect eye orbits and subtle ear apertures are praised.

The lacrimal crests progress upwards from above the nostrils high over the eye sockets before tapering off just behind the orbits. The fully articulated jaw with no lips is highlighted. The opening and closing of the jaw is described as having a smooth, fluid action. William praises the design team behind this dinosaur figure.

PNSO Xinchuan Sinraptor model has an articulated lower jaw.
Sinraptor has been classified as a member of the allosauroid group of theropod dinosaurs, specifically it has been classified as a member of the Metriacanthosauridae. The PNSO Xinchuan Sinraptor model has an articulated lower jaw.

Reviewing the Body of the Figure

A deep keel bone is the anchor point of a powerful rib cage which can be seen just under the skin and William suggests the thigh muscles on this figure look even more powerful than the recently introduced PNSO Allosaurus model. He also reports that the replica has an accurate and detailed cloaca.

The tail is described as being a little shorter than expected, but the length could be deceptive as it bends.

William adds:

“It is truly a pleasure to add this bruiser to my collection.”

William highlights the robust forelimbs and comments that they are longer than those of the PNSO Allosaurus figure and give the impression of great strength and power.

PNSO Xinchuan the Sinraptor figure.
Sinraptor dongi was formally named and described in 1994. The species name is in honour of the eminent Professor Dong Zhiming, one of China’s most celebrated palaeontologists.

Colour and Texture

The colour scheme is described as being not just a pink and grey object but a highly painted figure with subtle mixtures of rosy pinks and elephantine greys. The colouration of the underside of the model is praised, as are the details depicted around the eyes. William comments that the stained and discoloured teeth are great and states:

“Such a nicely executed colour scheme plus superb skin sculpture.”

The Sinraptor Model’s Measurements

Scale: 1/35.
Length: 9.5 inches.
Height: 3 inches.

Model Accessories

  • Clear plastic support stand.
  • A beautiful, fully illustrated, colour booklet.
  • Stunning A3-sized colour poster.
  • QR code with a link to a short, informative video.
PNSO Xinchuan the Sinraptor model measurements.
Xinchuan the Sinraptor model measures 21.6 cm long and the figure stands around 8.3 cm high.

Sinraptor Facts and Figures

As in previous reviews of prehistoric animal models by William, he provides some information on Sinraptor, choosing to focus on the second species named in this genus S. hepingensis. Sinraptor hepingensis was erected in 1992, based on fossils formerly ascribed to Yangchuanosaurus, some palaeontologists have challenged the validity of this taxon.

Time Period:
Temporal range: Middle Jurassic (169-142 million years ago).
Location: North-western China.

Classification: Sinraptor hepingensis.
Meaning: Hepingen’s Chinese plunderer.
Superfamily: Allosauroidea.
Family: Metriacanthosauridae.
Subfamily: Metriacanthosaurinae.
Family: Sinraptoridae.
Weight: 3.9 tons.
Length: 25 feet.
Height: 9.8 feet.

Sinraptor Discovery

William also commented on the second Sinraptor species to be erected stating that a second species was named in 1992 (Gao). Originally named Yangchuanosaurus hepingensis this specimen was later reclassified as Sinraptor hepingensis. The holotype Sinraptor hepingensis fossil is now on public exhibit in Zigong, China at the Zigong Dinosaur Museum in Sichuan Provence.

In completing his PNSO Xinchuan Sinraptor review William described the palaeoenvironment, stating that Sinraptor lived in a dinosaur dominated sub-tropical environment.

Our thanks to William for sending into Everything Dinosaur his PNSO Sinraptor review.

Eofauna Konobelodon atticus Reviewed

By |2022-10-23T16:08:16+01:00May 12th, 2022|Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Product Reviews|0 Comments

Our thanks to prehistoric animal fan and model collector William who sent into Everything Dinosaur a review of his recently purchased Eofauna Konobelodon atticus figure.

William wrote to Everything Dinosaur commenting on how well packaged his parcel had been. The Konobelodon atticus is the fourth prehistoric figure released by Eofauna and he praised the scientific accuracy of this exciting range.

Eofauna Konobelodon atticus
The new for 2022 Eofauna Konobelodon atticus model is supplied with a data card and Everything Dinosaur will also provide a product fact sheet with sales of this figure.

Konobelodon Reviewed

William began his review by explaining that the skull was longer and lower than those of modern elephants. He compared the Konobelodon head to other extinct proboscideans such as mastodons and gomphotheres. He highlighted the position of the eyes and the orbits set deeper and protected by a ridge of bone.

He summarised how these prehistoric elephants got their nickname “Shovel-Tuskers” and postulated that due to the observed pattern of wear on the tusks, the lower tusks were probably used to rasp the trunks of trees in order to feed on the bark.

William praised the trunk on the Eofauna model, commenting that it looked very natural and with the tip of the trunk swaying to the left it gave the impression that this elephant was either feeding or drinking.

The reviewer added:

As with all the Eofauna Proboscidea no detail is missed on the mouth from pink tongue to the tusks and the nasal openings. There are two, beautiful, pale yellow eyes that even in miniature form seem to portray the Proboscidea as having wisdom and compassion.”

Konobelodon model
Originally named in 1857, Konobelodon atticus has had a long and complicated taxonomic history. William praises this figure for its scientific accuracy.

Roaming the Savannah or Forest

The body is described as being long and robust, typical of the Amebelodontinae. William points out that old illustrations of this animal depicted it as a sprawling hippo-like swamp dweller. The Eofauna Scientific Research replica is a modern interpretation, this model would not be out of place roaming a savannah or forest.

William stated:

“This is all down to Eofauna’s painstaking research to create the perfect accurate model.”

Konobelodon atticus scale drawing.
A scale drawing of the Late Miocene prehistoric elephant Konobelodon atticus.

Information About K. atticus

William remarked that the model’s colour scheme was similar to the colouration seen today in extant Asian elephants with a mixture of splashes of pink and fleshy tones on the ears, chest, forehead and trunk.

The toenails have had the same pink and grey wash applied and the tuft of black hair on the end of the tail was singled out for comment by the reviewer.

William provided the model’s measurements:

Scale: 1/35.
Height: 4 inches.
Length: 9 inches.

A short history of the discovery of the first Konobelodon fossil material was provided encompassing the role played in the discovery by the historian John Finlay, soldiers in the army of the Bavaria that occupied Greece and how the fossils came to the notice of the German palaeontologist Johan Andreas Wagner.

Epoch: Miocene 15–10 million years ago.
Geographical Range: North America, Europe and China.
Weight: 9-10 Tons.
Height: 12-13 Feet.
Length: 26 Feet.

Eofauna Scientific Research Konobelodon atticus
The stunning Eofauna Konobelodon model measures 23 cm long and stands approximately 11 cm high.

William concluded his review by stating that in his opinion the Eofauna Konobelodon prehistoric elephant model was a “masterpiece” and he praised Everything Dinosaur for their excellent customer service and the swift delivery of his order.

William Reviews the Eofauna Diplodocus carnegii Model

By |2023-02-08T08:24:30+00:00May 9th, 2022|Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Product Reviews|0 Comments

Our thanks to dinosaur fan and model collector William who sent into Everything Dinosaur a review of the new for 2022 Eofauna Scientific Research Diplodocus carnegii model. William commented that the model arrived within 24-hours of placing the order and it was perfectly and expertly wrapped, being supplied in a strong cardboard box to protect the model in transit.

Eofauna Diplodocus carnegii model with information card
The new for 2022 Eofauna Diplodocus carnegii dinosaur model is supplied with a beautifully illustrated collector’s card. Everything Dinosaur team members helped with the hang tag and labelling for the new Eofauna Diplodocus.

The Second Sauropod from Eofauna Scientific Research

In William’s review he pointed out that the Diplodocus carnegii model was the second sauropod figure to be released by Eofauna following the introduction of their Atlasaurus figure in 2019. He praises the typically small diplodocid head, highlights the skin wrinkles and suggests that some palaeontologists think that sauropods had beaked lips to help them shear vegetation. William states that the beak keratin on the model is painted black which contrasts nicely with the inside of the mouth which is painted pink.

He highlights the dermal spines and comments upon the dermal bumps that are depicted over the large body.

Eofauna Diplodocus scale model
The Eofauna Diplodocus carnegii model measures around 60 cm in length and stands 11 cm tall. It is a 1/40th scale model.

A Terrific Torso

The reviewer reflects on the scientifically accurate sculpt of D. carnegii, from the finely rendered legs with the toenails well painted, including the more prominent inner toe claw on all four, compact, sturdy feet (digit I). William states that:

Never will you see such a long model from the tip of the neck to the end of its deadly tail tip.”

The complex colour scheme complete with its counter shading is discussed in William’s review and he praises the design team at Eofauna for their depiction of this iconic dinosaur.

William added:

“When you view the model from a side profile you see a pleasing, warm, earthy palette of hues just right for this Dippy.”

Eofauna Diplodocus and Konobelodon.
The Eofauna Diplodocus (top) and the Eofauna Konobelodon (bottom) with their fact sheets. Two new figures for 2022 with their accompanying Everything Dinosaur fact sheets.

The reviewer comments that this figure is in 1/40th scale and measures between 24 and 25 inches in length and stands around 4 inches tall. He explains that this Diplodocus species is associated with the Morrison Formation (Upper Jurassic).

Diplodocus Biography

In concluding his review, William kindly provided some additional notes about this remarkable sauropod genus. Explaining that the genus was erected by the American palaeontologist Othniel Charles Marsh in 1878.

Weight: 15-20 Tonnes.
Height: 16 feet high at the hip.
Length: 88 feet.
Neck length: 20-21 feet.

Ending his model review William kindly praised Everything Dinosaur stating:

“May I take a moment and thank the entire team of Everything Dinosaur.”

He is excited about future model introductions and is looking forward to hearing news of 2023 model releases from Eofauna Scientific Research.

Wonderful! Good Range, Good Prices, Good Service

It is our attention to detail that sets us apart from other suppliers of prehistoric animal models and figures. Take for example, a recently published review concerning the supply of a CollectA Tenontosaurus model.

The reviewer, Lisa, awarded Everything Dinosaur five-stars when she was emailed by Feefo asking for feedback on her recent purchase.

Lisa commented:

“Wonderful! Good range, good prices, good service. Bought a Tenontosaurus for dinosaur obsessed child’s 10th birthday. Lovely model, arrived really quickly, nicely wrapped with bubble wrap to protect its neck. Will buy from them again.”
