Looking forward to Model Introductions in 2010
No sooner do team members at Everything Dinosaur complete work in preparation for the introduction of new items into our range for this year, then we start work on next year's products. Take for example our range of dinosaur models and toys, we are already working on models with a number of manufacturers for introduction in 2010 and beyond.
The drawing is of one such new model, we can't remember if there has been a model of this particular dinosaur launched before, its fossils are extremely rare and only fragmentary remains have been discovered so far.
The picture is of a Wuerhosaurus (pronounced where-oh-saw-us), a bizarre member of the Stegosauridae, perhaps the most unusual of the Stegosaurs. This dinosaurs remains have been found in China, from sediments dating from the early Cretaceous. The Stegosaurs reached their evolutionary peak in the late Jurassic, this type of dinosaur became less numerous and went extinct as the Cretaceous period dawned. Wuerhosaurus is a sort of "living fossil", one of the last of its kind.
Whereas the plates on the backs of most other Stegosaurs were tall and triangular, those on the back and tail of Wuerhosaurus were long, low and rectangular. Scientists are not sure whether the parallel rows of plates were aligned with each other or offset. We have placed the plates on the back of our Wuerhosaurus in an offset alignment. When we experimented with the layout of the plates in our drawings this arrangement looked the most natural.
We will be launching the Wuerhosaurus model soon, the picture we have provided is just really a peak around the corner.
